The Yucaipa Valley Kiwanis Club has announced Saturday May 3rd as the date for the annual "Around the Lakes Fun Runs and Walks". As in the past, the events will start in the Community Park, but will soon take all of the participants on trails into the Yucaipa Regional Park on breathtaking vistas of the serene lakes there, before finishing in the middle of the Iris Festival activities back at the Community Park. Event organizers and past participants all agree, "it is the most unique and scenic courses you'll find anywhere in Southern California”.
There is something for everyone at the event that encourages family fun and fitness. Anyone from 3 years of age or older is welcome to participate, with individual awards given to the first 10 finishers in each division. As in the past, the Yucaipa Valley Kiwanis Club will also be rewarding to the top three schools with the greatest number of students, parents, and faculty involved, the “Annual Fitness Challenge Award" trophies, as well as making monetary contributions to their school's physical education program.
The 10K run and walk begins at 8:00AM, followed by the 5K run and walk at 9:00AM, the 2-mile Whipper Snapper Jog (for those youth 12 and under) at 9:30AM, and finally the ½ mile Little Tyke's Dash (for those 7 years and under) at 10:15AM.
The awards ceremony will be held at the main stage of the Yucaipa Music & Arts Festival at 12:30PM. That should allow everybody enough time to get cleaned up and over to the festival to enjoy some of the events before and after the ceremony.
The registration fee for adults (18 years and older) is $25, youth (17 years and under) $20, children (7 years and under) $15 and seniors (65 and over) $20. Also, we are providing a family pack (2 adults, 2 kids) for $68. Registration includes participation in the events, a unique T-shirt indicating participation in the run and awards for top runners. Every participant will also receive a "Fitness Challenge Accomplished "award as well. There will be a $10 late fee added to those registering after April 26th. All proceeds will go to provide scholarships to high school and college students.
